Fabric Intelligence
Science,
worn quietly.
We begin at the fibre, not the silhouette. Three fabrics sit at the heart of Lumisca — each chosen, sourced, and engineered for what it does to the body. One shields the skin from the sun. One breathes like a living thing. One falls like air. This is the science behind each.
What the sun
is doing to skin.
Sunlight carries two kinds of ultraviolet radiation. They reach the skin differently, and they harm it differently. Understanding them is the reason our most engineered fabric exists.
- UVA — penetrates deep · ageing
- UVB — strikes the surface · burning
- Reaches you even through cloud & glass
What UPF
actually means.
UPF — Ultraviolet Protection Factor — measures how much UV a fabric stops before it touches skin. SPF protects a cream on the surface; UPF protects through the cloth itself. The higher the number, the less gets through.
A UPF 50+ rating is the highest classification issued — the standard reserved for “excellent protection.”
Tan Ban®
Bamboo-derived cellulose silk · Vegan
Our most engineered textile — and the only one built to a certification. Tan Ban® carries UPF 50+, independently tested to the international AATCC 183 standard and certified by The Bombay Textile Research Association, an approved body of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The weave blocks over 98% of UVA and UVB the moment fabric meets skin.
Embedded in the weave. Not painted on top.
Most “sun-protective” clothing wears a chemical coating on its surface. It sits on the fibre, and with every wash it fades — the protection leaves before the garment does.
Tan Ban®'s protection is structural — woven through the fibre rather than brushed across it. It does not rinse away, dilute, or expire. With reasonable care, it lasts the lifetime of the piece.
Botanical Linen
100% European flax · 60 Lea
Botanical Linen is what nature gives, not what a lab applies. Structurally porous, it lets air move through the weave continuously, which is why linen has been worn under the sun for centuries. It softens and deepens with every wash — the fabric living, not failing.
A regenerative natural fibre that uses a fraction of cotton's water and biodegrades fully at end of life. Pure, breathable, and entirely free of microplastics.
Mul Mul Cotton
Hand-loomed · Heritage Indian weave
The lightest of the three, and the oldest in spirit. Mul Mul is the original Indian summer cloth — ultra-fine, hand-loomed in heritage traditions, weave by weave. It sits weightlessly on the skin, made for the body in heat.
A pure natural cotton, free of microplastics, thermo-regulating by nature. Worn for centuries because it disappears against the skin — present only as comfort.
Different fibres.
One standard.
Whatever the question — sun, breath, or weightlessness — every Lumisca fabric answers to the same house principles.
Thermo-regulating
Each fabric is chosen for how it balances temperature against the skin in heat.
Breathable in Heat
Air moves with the body — these are fabrics made to be worn under the sun.
Microplastic-Free
Naturally derived, plant-origin fibres — nothing synthetic shed into skin or sea.
Built to Last a Decade
Cut to be worn for years — chic at first wearing, better at its hundredth.
Naturally Derived
Regenerative, plant-based, and kinder to the earth than the cloth it replaces.
Made to Order
Constructed only after your order — considered, hand-finished, made for keeping.
Design follows fibre.
Never the season.
You are not buying a trend. You are buying a piece you will wear for years — chosen, sourced, and certified for what it does to the body.
